How To or Why Recycle Household Batteries?

I’ve been wanting to make this video for quite a while. A few years ago I decided to start purchasing rechargeable batteries for my home instead of single use batteries. I found that I was “trashing” batteries constantly and that was not good. My simple solution was to phase out single use AA and AAA batteries first because that was what I primarily used. The next question was how to test batteries in my junk drawer to see it they were good. After that I separated the good and the bad, put the good back in my good stash.

Oh, by the way, EPA estimates that in the good ol’ US of A we trash up to 3 billion batteries each year. That means that 3 billion batteries are going into landfills all across our great country. We can do better than that. Do your part, please.

Enough of my lecturing, I’ll continue.

I decided to make a list of all of the devices in my home that use batteries and was literally shocked. Here is just what I came up with in a few minutes.

Security System
Security Sensors
Locks
Cameras
Flashlights
TV Remotes
Streaming Stick Remotes
Other Remotes
Flashlights (and I have plenty just in case)
Generator
Battery Yard Tools
Battery Power Tools
Portable Radios
Portable Speakers
Two Way Radios
Outdoor Security Lights
Outdoor Solar Powered Yard Lights
Cars
Laptops
Key Fobs
Garage Door Openers

I know I forgot a bunch.

How and where to store the bad batteries was the next question followed by where to take them to be recycled.

It sure seemed like a tall task, but really it was super easy to do. Check out my video below on how I solved these pressing issues:)

It is never too late to start caring about our planet earth. We should all strive to leave it in better shape than when we got here. God gave us this miracle in the middle of the universe. We have limited resources and need to pass them on to all of the generations that follow.
