After years of trying to find the right heater for my garage, I believe I have found one that does the trick. My garage is not insulated and that makes for projects to be put on the back burner during the hot summer months as well as the cold winter days. I plan on eventually finshing the interior. insulating the walls and installing a mini-split system for heating and cooling,. However, until then I need a better solution than using electric space heaters or kerosene heaters.
My goal is to be able to heat my garage enough to do projects as well as using the space as my video studio. After looking at alternatives to heaters that didn’t work I zeroed in on a propane heater called Mr. Heater. Tons of RVers and campers use them and they rave about how well they heat, as well as their safety and efficiency.
You can use either one-pound bottles of propane or you can connect it to larger 20-pound tanks like the ones used for propane grills and outdoor heaters. The model I purchased has three heat settings 4000/9000/18000 BTU’s. It is enough heat for up to 450 square feet. That’s about the size of my garage so I should be perfect.
I made an unboxing video that covers my thought process as well as a demonstration of the model I bought. This might be the solution for your garage or workshop too!
Another benefit of this heater is that it is approved for indoor use. That makes it an additional tool in your emergency preparedness toolbox. It can be used to heat any room in your home.
I definately caution anyone to be extremely careful with any type of auxiliary heaters. They can be dangerous to keep them away from anything flammable and pick up a carbon monixide alarm if you are using any type of natural gas/propane/kerosene heaters or if you are burning wood or coal in your fireplace. Always remember, SAFETY FIRST.
